“Brazil’s Sports Minister Orlando Silva is the latest cabinet-level official to face corruption allegations during the first year of President Dilma Rousseff’s administration, Dow Jones Newswires reported. Silva, a member of the Brazilian Communist Party, allegedly participated in a scheme to embezzle as much as $23 million over eight years from a ministry program to provide recreational activity for underprivileged youth, Newswires’ Gerald Jeffris reported, citing the weekly news magazine Veja.
Silva was appointed to a top position in the sports ministry by Rousseff’s predecessor, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, and named minister in 2006. So far, four cabinet-level officials have resigned from Rousseff’s government amid corruption allegations. A fifth left following political differences with her administration.”
