The US$20 billion deal between the Government of India and the French company Dassault for the sale of 126 Rafale fighter jets is threatened by a corruption scandal that won the first pages of the local press in the last couple days. On Thursday, in an interview to the newspaper Times of India, Indian Defence Minister said that the contract with the French is under investigation and may be canceled if the irregularities (“bribery”) in the process that led to the choice of the fighters are confirmed.

Seems like the French are throwing money at anyone willing to buy their Rafale jet… Wikileaks has recently leaked a series of emails from an executive hinting that the reason why Brazilian air force chose the Rafale over other fighter jets was due to “serious kick backs by the French, who know how to bribe”.

Just coincidence?
