We thought this website needed to dedicate at least one post to an inspiring professional that we all admire: Jorge Paulo Lemann. So here it is, to the best Brazilian executive…
Mr. Lemann was born to Swiss immigrants and is currently ranked as the third wealthiest individual in Brazil. In 1971 he and three partners founded the Brazilian investment banking firm Banco Garantia. Undaunted by a horrific market crash that came only weeks later, Lemann was eventually able to build Garantia into one of the country’s most prestigious and innovative investment banks, described in Forbes as “a Brazilian version of Goldman Sachs.”
Later he and his partners bought control of a Brazilian brewery that eventually became AmBev. AmBev merged with Interbrew of Belgium in August 2004, but only later the biggest Lemann’s transaction became a reality: the $52 billion 2008 takeoverof Anheuser-Busch Cos. by InBev NV.
Yes, Budweiser is his. And Burger King too. Through his firm (3G Capital), he controls both companies and many more.
A recent article by Bloomberg illustrates his story, which is very interesting and inspiring.
