UOL, the largest internet portal in Latin America, will close its capital by going private at December 29 this year. And it may have a new partner by then. The bank BTG Pactual is considering the idea of becoming a shareholder in the company. BTG may acquire 40% of the shares by purchasing the 25% stake owned by João Alves de Queiroz Filho, owner of Hypermarcas, plus the public shares traded on the stock exchange. The Frias family, which owns 58% of UOL, will not relinquish control of the company.
