According to Mercer’s annual ranking, Sao Paulo is the 12th and Rio de Janeiro is the 13th most expensive city in the world, with Tokyo topping the list and followed by Angola’s Luanda.
The study found out that the two largest cities in Brazil are also the most expensive of the American continent, followed by Caracas which rose 22 spots since last year to become the 29th most expensive in the world, New York at 33rd and Brasilia at 45th. Mercer’s “cost of living” ranking takes into account the prices of housing, transportation, food, clothing, household goods and entertainment. The study considers the cost of living in US dollars.
